The overall purpose of the role is to provide assistance and back-up in delivering daily cash management, settlement of all treasury transactions as well as short-term borrowings and foreign exchange execution and management.
Full professional training will be provided
(both on the job and self-study) to enable the job holder to progress to fulfilling the role fully and achieving ACT qualifications.
The Treasury Assistant's prime duty is to ensure continuity and efficient operation of Group Treasury by undertaking, but not limited to, the following key joint responsibilities with the Treasury Analyst:
• Calculate the Group’s daily cash position and establish the net borrowing/deposit requirement by currency
• Determine each day the optimal way to meet the Group’s f! unding requirement and plan the optimal funding plan for the f! ollowing four weeks in order to minimise total borrowing cost.
• Execute daily borrowings in GBP for same day value
• Confirmation and settlement of all treasury transactions
• Settle MTN issues by completing all necessary documentation including IAS39, carry out IAS39 prospective testing, update RBS tool kit and Bloomberg valuation tools with debt and derivative details , and record hedging relationships correctly in hedging relationship sheets and IAS39 testing crib sheet
• Input all transactions into treasury management system
• Updating the statement of the Group’s total debt and derivatives position summary
• Calculate monthly interest and fixed cost accruals
• Maintain and use Bloomberg system to calculate mark to market valuations of IRS’s and FX swaps
• Maintain bank mandates and electronic banking system user records
• Assist with performing IAS39 testing at each quarter end within book close time c! onstraints Understanding of function, use, measurement and settlement of all financial instruments used by HCUK,
The role requires ability to learn quickly and have a keen, long term interest in financial markets covering the following areas:
• Understanding of function, use, measurement and settlement of all financial instruments used by HCUK,
• Payment & clearing systems,
• The basics of accounting for treasury transactions and a certain level of understanding of financial instruments of potential use to HCUK.
• Knowledge and ability to apply theory in IAS39 retrospective and prospective testing.
The characteristics and abilities required are demonstrable academic record, a natural ability at mathematics and a knack to apply calculation to problem solving and estimation together with a developed eye for detail.
Furthermore good interpersonal and negotiating skills are needed in order to work closely with ! both external and internal contacts to achieve specific goals unsupervi! sed and sometimes under high critical time pressure.
The ability to think and take action on own initiative (within the remit of the role and when required) to achieve increased treasury performance and objectives are of great benefit, as well as an ability and desire to measure own progress towards achieving objectives.
