Open Source Software Engineers, the job’s main purpose is to contribute upstream Software development to Open Source Software projects used! by Samsung Electronics.
You will be responsible for performing all, or part, of the open source software development life cycle (from Analysis, Specification, Designing, Documentation, Review, Implementation, Verification, Contribution and Maintenance.
The role will include representing Samsung in the Open Source Software community and promoting Samsungs strategies in the Open Source Software component with which you are involved..
You will be expected to provide technical authority in an Open Source Software component and providing guidance in its use within Samsung product development
The role may include taking technical responsibility for other Open Source Software contributions from software developments within SERI and Samsung towards upstream Open source projects
An important part of the job will be helping to incubate new projects, which may involve feasibility, design and prototyping work across the complete range of so! ftware platforms and applications used by Samsung, its supplie! rs and customers.
In a technical position you will be expected to develop and maintain a wide understanding of all Linux based platform components that can be used in Mobile devices and to provide high level technical input to architectural designs used within SERI and other groups within Samsung.
Key Objectives
The main tasks you are expected to perform include, but are not limited to:
• Technical responsibility for Open Source Software upstream contributions to develop functionality towards the requirements of Samsung’s products
• Engage with key Open Source Software projects and Samsung internal customers to help guide the technology used in the development of Samsungs products.
• Contribute to and provide technical consultation to other projects both within SERI and other locations in Samsung that are using these Open Source components.
• Promoting Open Source best practices with in SERI and across Samsun! gs engineering groups
• In Senior positions represent Samsung at external events and Open Source forums, giving presentations and participating in discussions
• Carry out technical analysis of new Open Source Software that may be introduced to Samsungs products, performing feasibility studies, high level designs, and prototyping typical of the incubation stages of large development projects.
• Keep abreast of developments with all Samsung Mobile SW platforms. Understanding their architecture and how to design and develop new features and applications for them
• Continuous development of the methods and processes used for Open Source Software.

Person Specification
• A degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any related d! iscipline (an equivalent period of industrial experience may be substit! uted).
• A proven track record in real time embedded software development preferably for mobile devices with an understanding of the embedded development environments and associated development restrictions.
• Proficiency in C and an understanding of programming languages used in software development
• Previous development experience in an Open Source Software project development community such as LLVM, Web Servers, Linaro, Wayland, XEN, etc.
• Experience in design and development of embedded systems for mobile platforms, with expertise in one or more of the components used in these platforms.
• A good understanding of documentation requirements and able to able to clearly present complex ideas and technical designs.
• A good level of inter-personal and communication skills to be able to communicate with a wide range of people from engineers to Samsung managing.
• A high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work alone! , managing own work and setting sensible priorities according to requirements.
• Good analytical and logical thinking capability with a high level innovation
• Ability to learn and implement SERI and Corporate business philosophies.
